Rogue Trader - The Hos Dynasty
Welcome to The Hos Dynasty
A thoughtful discussion on how to rule planets, make a galaxy worth of enemies, and the importance of prioritizing how to kill enemies in a specific order.
When Jequin Hos was faced with the option of which of his siblings to support in the claim for rights to his Dynasty, he examined his brothers and sisters and concluded that the most qualified person was himself. Daring to succeed where his family had failed in the past, he took his family flagship and set off for the Koronus Expanse – one of the last untamed frontier areas in the galaxy where he would make his fortune and cement his claim to the family Dynasty, or return home and face the consequences of his ambition proved wrong.
Armed with naught but the finely tailored clothes on his back, the galaxy’s most curmudgeonly 28-year-old Navigator and his much-less competent boss, a Tech-Priest who looks and acts like an aloof planetary governor, a first-officer Astropath with enough skeletons in his closet for a Dark Eldar citadel, a security chief who grew up on a world where politeness was outlawed, a small town’s population serving as fanatically loyal crew members for his awesomely destructive void ship and enough wealth to maybe purchase two or three colony worlds – a pittance really, the Hos Dynasty has set out for fame and fortune in the Koronus Expanse!
To date they have faced down the brutal savagery of the Orks, the sadistic condescension of the Dark Eldar, the ravaging hatred of the Rak’Gol, would-be Kroot assassins, the corrupting influence of the Yu’Vath and truly taxing dinner parties with various other Rogue Traders. They have also realised that Warp Travel is apparently completely safe and a nice break from their otherwise hectic lives.
The Dynasty’s expansions around The Cauldron could not go unchecked forever however, and they have been recognised as a growing threat by Calligos Winterscale, the dominant power inside of the Expanse. Forced into a war they did not want, the Dynasty now finds itself challenged by Eldar, heretics and the forces that still bend knee to the Imperium.
The war was swift, but by no means forgiving. Though the Dynasty resisted the hammer, they could not defend against an enemy they had no means of seeing coming. The madness of Hadarak Fel, the alliances he forged, and the depths he sank to allowed him to maneuver the Hos Dynasty in competition with the Winterscale Dynasty for his own gain. In the critical moment, in the shadows none penetrate, all the Hos Dynasty have accomplished has been taken by him. A puppet now rules Svard, and Fel himself sits enthroned over Lucin’s Breath.
The Dynasty has been cast down. Betrayed by one their own, its survivors are forgotten and ignored by the Galaxy at large. Their gains have been stolen, their power has been stripped, their bodies have been shackled, their spirits have been humbled. Or so the theory was to go.
The Dark Eldar had no idea what hit them. Escaping from an unconquered prison, uniting and inspiring those with broken wills and spirits to fight back, raiding and murdering their way to the top. Allies were found, alliances were forged, and prophecies were fulfilled – buying their freedom at the cost of the lives of those that hated them, the Dynasty has emerged into an Expanse changed. Fractured and trapped, what little society there was appears to have broken down.
And starting from nothing, it is time to once again prove that they are the natural rulers of the Expanse…
This adventure is a spiritual continuation of our last campaign: Dark Heresy – Ordo Portis
Rogue Trader - The Hos Dynasty Comments
Welp, I have broken my Writer’s block and managed to get the side-adventure I ran with Felicis and Maturinus written. Read all about how your Explorator has completely given up on anything approaching sanity and rationale, and also how he got you guys a completely new ship for you to use with no strings attached.
As I recall, that is how it was meant to work.
Question on the platoons, since the Death Bastards have seven successful missions to their names…
Are we going on a Fibonacci sequence to level them, or what?
I don’t know why it says content not found…
http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/rogue-trader-the-hos-dynasty/characters/honour-guard
If you could please add the Content Not Found: honour-guard to the platoon page again, it would be appreciated. I updated them, as I believe this would be their third active combat. Seeing as they distracted Zachariah so well that one time, I decided they should be trained in Blather instead of a more combat oriented talent (since Social Combat is the way to go, anyway), and felt they deserve Jaded after everything I’ve put them through (and how freaking amazing the PCs are) has made it all so mundane. Fearless was a bit much, and doesn’t fit with paranoia.
Damaris Player Gazette is now uploaded, and can also be found here.
Well the much delayed summary of our last session is finally up. I still have to add a bunch of links to it, create and update character profiles and finish the Damaris Player Gazette for our next session (Friday the 13th. Really wish I’d gone with my other campaign idea), but it’s there if any of you have any questions about it.
Also were you aware that even those of you not in attendance earned 450 XP to spend? Because you did.
We must follow due process.
First, it is to be reported that the Light Cruiser captained by Mister Jacobus was lost in the warp; whatever Navigator house he may have been working with, they should know their members are gone. Family, trade relations, some other things which slip my mind at the moment… many lives were lost in the worst manner possible. People have the right to know, and as we did nothing wrong we will tell them.
Second, on the issue of piracy. It stands to reason that the two Raiders were, in fact, involved in many bad things over the years. Reparations can and will be made to ensure that the Dynasty’s dignity need not be smeared by their presence. If the frigates do not step into line soon, we will have their names before long and put out an additional bounty ourselves. Let’s add that to the message of peace and understanding we’re broadcasting.
Lastly, I need more information on this Magos Biologis if I am going to be in bed with her.
Two notes!
First in case you missed it, 600 XP for tonight’s session.
Second when going over my notes I forgot to factor in the huge Achievement Point bonuses from the In Obscurum Veritas, so you gained 3 extra profit factor over what I had told you previously. Huzzah!
The men and women of Svard are broken, but unbowed.
I strongly doubt that Commander Keel would ever admit it, but we owe our lives to the lone frigate of the Svard Defense Fleet captained by Antonio Cassis – a good man.
I have high hopes for this planet. With the proper protection, men like him can be given the opportunity to train the best of the best. It will take a great deal of time – a decade by my rough calculations – and a good deal of resources, but I firmly believe that Svard will one day be the training grounds for the ‘Conus Pradatoriusum’ we need to crew our vessels. Make no mistake, mankind is an apex predator when given sufficient stimuli. I must tread carefully, as this is a pivotal moment in the future of the Dynasty; deny the Battlefleet the opportunity to crew their vessel, and I make an enemy – allow them to take their pick of the Voidsmen, and they are forever lost to us. Great forces are at work here, but I feel the need to look beyond… to some day maintain the truly elite standards which would allow my House stand against any opposition.
I must consult with the inner council – my mind plays tricks on me when given time to wander.
More than fair. And yes, I must admit, I am in awe of your Koronus Expanse map. If there’s any resources you need, I’ll even open up my W40K Maptools Token and Portrait library to you. I have an impressive collection, but not truely mine. A collection.
The only things I truely own are the character sheet templates for colonies, ships, and players. Coded myself, inspired by the core books. I can provide the raw code on request.
I have no problem with that, if you wanted a blank copy of my larger map of the Koronus Expanse I can provide that as well if you’d like. I will now relentlessly crawl through your campaign to see if there’s anything there to steal there!
Friendly DM from another campaign (Disease and Death wrapped in Darkness and Silence). I was hoping to borrow (read: shamelessly steal) some of your site’s information. Specifically, some of your items, your tagging system, and your review of each subsector of the Kronous Expanse. May I?
The Adeptus Administratum regrets their chronological error, and all references to this campaign having begun in 816.M41 have been updated to 826.M41. They go on to say that they have absolutely and definitely not lost any Hos Dynasty planets as a result of this error, and please stop asking them about what happened to your Forge World.
When it comes time for ostentatious displays of wealth, I’m hiring the likes of these…

Campaign Map has been updated. As you purchased six maps in total, I have given you routes to Svard (which has now been mapped in detail) and Foulstone as well as Melbethe and Seldon’s Folly since you have been asked to go there by various people, as well as the Breaking Yards and Naduesh since they are both reasonably well-known destinations inside of the Koronus Expanse.
Styrine was indeed a character encountered and killed on Quaddis in the manner described. You may be trying to think of Shaunna as the other girl, who later took vows and became Sister Aescaline, flying Sister of Battle.
I have started a Dark Heresy References page on the Wiki.
I would like to point out that miss styrine was the hive ganger that Nixios killed while trying to Medicae. The other girl’s name eludes me at the moment, but if nobody else can come up with the correction I will dive through my pile of retired character notes to find the truth.
As per your Rogue Trader looking me in the eye and telling me he was going to “research” the place he was thinking of going, there is now a Player’s Gazette for the Svard system.
Enjoy!
600 XP for everyone from Session 7!
Dear Feckless,
We missed you at dinner the other day. Those Kroot gentlemen didn’t much care for what they ate. It did not agree with them – I’m sure you can sympathize. We must get together again, but next time, let’s do it at your house.
With much affection,
The Hos Dynasty, and the crew of the Lumen.
It was a tricky situation; I had to make it look like I was trying to save the orks on the enemy ship, while still allowing those who wanted the filthy xenos dead the opportunity to do what they thought was the God-Emperor’s work. They do not understand! By pitting one enemy against the other, we played them like the fools they are and came out both victor and hero. The lives of the soldiers who died defending the docking bay will weigh on my heart, but my mind is at peace knowing how many were spared.
The men build themselves up to be heroes, the fallen placed on the pedestal of martyrdom… It is not honesty, perhaps not even kindness, which forces me to hold my tongue. It is a precarious situation wherein I choose my favourites, set them upon center stage to play their role and briefly bask in the glory and revelry – only to be shunted to the wing for the next.
Nobody can see the bigger picture.
I must.
The Grace Player’s Handout has been updated and uploaded. Review it here so that you know exactly what’s waiting
to kill youfor you to explore. As I said and HAVE ALWAYS SAID, given the extra-long length of Friday the 29th’s session and the amount of new characters, plot thread finding, race winning and fleet growing you guys have done I have revised my earlier reward of 700 EXP for that session and raised it to 1100.
Good work everyone!

Commander L Sans,
Thank you for your vote of confidence. I have found the EB, and dictate this message to a messenger of the Choir as my shuttle is prepared. I am unsure how long it will be until this great vessel is once again Warp-worthy, but I will do my utmost to make Port so that you too may walk its hallowed halls.
I’ll upload my various handouts for you guys on the Wiki for you to review at your leisure. I figure you’ll be able to find it, but I’ll make as many redundant references as I like thank you.
Current Handouts
Cool beans! I think we’ll all learn to appreciate this new tool – it’s extremely versatile. Give me a bit to track down my notes, then I’ll get my dude up here.
