A small bronze device retrieved from Navigator Benetek, it seems to have taken quite a shine to Maturinus of Navis Nobilite House Pazzano. Its function remains unknown at this time, but it is implied to be involved in warp navigation somehow.

Object : “Beneteks Device” aka “The Worm”

Description : It has a bronzed coloration, rough oval shape that is about 4 Standard Terran Centimeters across. The artifact appears to be split into three sections which since contact with it have not moved or seen to be malleable.

Hypothesis : Peering into the warp has suggested that the artifact is not warp-capable in Real space. As for when it is in Warp space is unknown, but possible. It seems capable of movement that defies all logic, being able to move from place to place with out sound and notice. Allowing it access to secure locations. One moment it is in a locked box, the next in a locked drawer in the Navigator Maturinus room. It is possible it is using some kind of short “Warp jumping” to move from place to place.

Notes from the cogitators of the Emperors Bounty (see attached Appendix 7HADFIO-1 ) suggest that it was used as an aid in the Navigation of the Warp. The reports also suggested that the former Navigator Benetek used this devices in his Warp Navigation. This is supported by the fact that it was found by myself in Navigator Beneteks quarters. It is also suggest from the records that the Device caused the cataclysm to befall the Emperor Bounty and lead it to its destruction.

I recommend that the so called “Beneteks Device” be locked away until it is found the purpose of this artifact. Also I think if it is usable by Navigators, all ship board Navigators should be warned of its presence, and informed not to engage it (for the destruction that it may bring). In addition all warp sensitive members of the crew should also not engage it. If the devices is found to truly be a blasphemous Denis artifact I would recommend its destruction.

After talking with a number of crew members, returning to my chambers I was assaulted by this Device. I was knocked out for around 10 Standard Terran Minutes on 140.826.M41 . After consulting with Astropath Poe, that is could be some type of warp madness on my part. Although I feel this was an actual event. As to what the purpose of attacking me is unknown. I have informed Deacon Yauz and Astropath Poe to watch my movements and engage in necessary work to protect the crew if I become erratic. In addition I have agreed with Poe to move to the Astropath quarters for now, although not as comfortable I believe I would be safer there.

It is possible this device is related to some Shrouded House or heretical Mechanicus group. They have been know to research into ways to ‘improve’ the Navigators 3rd eye. Although most attempts have ended in disastrous burnout for the Navigator. It is interesting to have found this in the possession of a Navigator of House Benetek as they have no know taint of heresy. He may have been a rouge element in his House though.
