With their assault on the Nexus of Shadows thwarted, the Dynasty would have been doomed to die a slow death of exposure, were it not for a timely rescue by Lieutenant Vasquez and the last survivors of the Death Bastards mounting a daring jetbike rescue to free them in the middle of a riot. As she explained, the subsequent escape of all of the Dark Eldar slaves was proving more difficult than the Xenos originally expected to put down, allowing her to stage a rescue of the Dynasty. Leading them back to Captain Shen’s hideout in the bowels of the city, the reason for the sudden acquisition of the Eldar technology became apparent – the exiled Archon Salaine Morn had returned, and was intent on using the chaos of the rebellion to reclaim her authority.
The Archon proved herself an amiable enough ally, despite the suspicious certainty of her sudden yet inevitable betrayal for the group. She removed Astropath Eckhart’s psychic deadener, restored Zacharya Caine’s full augmetic body, implanted a new eye into the ruined socket of Jequin Hos’s skull, and took in good grace the not-even-subtle suggestion from Jian Vang that he would break every bone in her filthy heretical body before she could lay a finger on him. In addition, she had gathered several groups of the disjointed slaves to unify them before unleashing a rebellion, allowing Shazzy Law and Shazzy Fire to reunite with their people and share with them the tragedy of the Ethereal’s passing.
The first task for the Dynasty was to shore up the numbers of the slave rebellion, which meant going through the tunnels to try and tie together the disparate groups of humans that had fled their enslavement on the surface. After gathering enough of them together, an inspired diplomacy effort from Captain Hos promising them freedom and escape from the Eldar, or at least an opportunity to burn their city to the ground, proved sufficient to get enough of them on their side.
The next group that they went after were the surviving Kroot, led by the Shaper who had spurned them at the Tournament of Champions. They had apparently fled the city for the radiation blasted wasteland in the outskirts, which meant it was time for breaking loose in their Dark Eldar jetbikes that Hos and Eckhart had learned to pilot. Tracking the Kroot under the radiation blasted sky, they learned that Grunak and her people were dying, and they had come to try to find a creature that they could eat to try and absorb the strength of in order to hold off their dead. They had found a giant wyrm that would be sufficient, but they were not strong enough to do so.
Astropath Eckhart, his powers now restored, killed it with contemptuous ease.
The Kroot were grateful, and in exchange for the Dynasty’s pledge to continue to feed them strong creatures, would help them with their future endeavours. Their return to the city was nearly intercepted by the Eldar fighters, but the group managed through skilled piloting and cover fire from Caine managed to reach the undercity safely. Refusing to be cowed, they decided to take the fight to their Eldar aggressors, attacking the roaming Jetbike reavers and their cabal of enemies. Lurking among the slaves they had themselves freed, most of the Dynasty engaged in combat with the swooping raiders until their leader revealed themselves, at which point again Eckhart’s psychic powers turned the tide. Though their leader nearly escaped, he was mentally coerced by the Astropath into surrendering, and upon capture was taken to Salaine who swiftly executed him as a symbol.
